What are Mindset Works and Brainology^®

Mindset Works is a new Silicon Valley venture that provides educational software focused on increasing student motivation to improve academic success across subject areas. The company is headquartered in San Carlos, CA.  Brainology is Mindset Works' flagship product, an award-winning, blended learning program that teaches brain science and study skills. Who uses the program?

The Brainology program is geared towards middle school and high school students, but it is being used in schools as well as in homes and youth programs where developing a focus on learning is critical. The program has been piloted successfully throughout the United States and abroad, and feedback from educators, parents and students has been overwhelmingly positive. Schools, parents, and educators have obtained the program for use with their children and students. It is available to anyone interested in improving their learning capabilities and intelligence.

How is it different than other educational programs?

While there are many brain fitness programs out there providing great educational and entertainment value, Brainology® is different because once students understand how their brain and cognitive abilities operate, it reduces negative and fixed stereotypes that create barriers to learning. Improved self-esteem leads to responsibility and self-management skills. Students are then open and receptive to working hard to improve their academic performances. Educators are assured they using a research-based educational program that’s easily implemented into the school curriculum and enjoyable brain stimulation for students.

What evidence or success has there been to support the efficacy of this program?

The research conducted by Drs. Dweck and Blackwell over the last 20 years has shown that students who hold a growth mindset use more sophisticated strategies in their coursework due to learned behavior on how to develop and grow their own intellectual potential. Two studies were conducted with direct results impacting students’ mathematics achievements in an upward improvement and the research has been documented in the February 2007 edition of “Child Development”.
